Jack was so impressed by what he had read; he
even kept a newspaper clipping that described it. He read it to me:
“Steve’s Snappin’ Dogs is a magical dining experience that’s mmm…good!
It’s a place where everyone is welcome! You will crave to share with
your kids, family and friends, Steve’s premium product, superior
guest service, and the fun of re-living childhood memories then and
now!” Steve’s Snappin Dogs are “Snap Happy” and you will be too!
The only problem was Jack didn’t know where Steve’s Snappin Dog’s
was. But together we would figure it out and Jack remembered the street
name Colfax. Jack told me that he had a feeling in his heart that
this was my special place and they were waiting for me!
I remember that first night; I was just a young pup then. It was
rainy that night, not like when Noah was on the ark, but enough to
keep my paws wet and my ears droopy. I was lonesome, hungry, scared
and lost! Did I mention I was a tummy-growling hungry? And it was
squeeze your eyes shut tight dark!
Although I didn’t know where I was, I knew what I was looking for. I
had heard of this Special Place where all dogs are loved. A place
where children laughed, babies giggled, and you could get your belly
rubbed or ears scratched whenever you felt like you needed a little
lovin’. This place was a place where everybody was treated special.
I just couldn’t wait to find it. Do you understand how excited I
was?
Well, my search was long and scary. The traffic scared me, not
knowing what was hiding in a dark alley scared me, barking dogs
scared me, even my own shadow scared me a couple of times. I think
you get the picture.
But, then I remembered I had been told when I felt most afraid to
make a special wish. You know they say, you’re supposed to follow
your heart, but after all, I’m a dog so I followed my nose! So
that’s what I did, I sniffed the air and got a scent of the most
wonderful smell! And there it was all sunny and red like ketchup and
mustard, my Special Place! Steve’s Snappin Dogs.
The bright lights around it made it glow in the dark. My search was
over. I found it! The big beautiful sign read, “Everybody Loves A
Great Dog”! And then I found crumbs. Glorious, snack-a-licious,
leftover, dog biscuit crumbs. There was a sign that said “Doggie
Dining” complete with a hitching post to hook my collar and leash to
keep me safe. I curled up under a picnic table to take a nap, the
wind and rain couldn’t get me now.
I had only been asleep for a few minutes when I heard this sound. It
was still dark. Who could be making all that noise? My nose answered
the question. It was the garbage truck, on its morning pickup. I
poked my nose around the corner and saw traffic: people in their
cars going by, I guess to work, then a couple of big buses, then
more noise, a car radio with music playing, then footsteps and
voices, the workers had arrived.
I backed into the corner, where nobody could see me. Then I saw
people making everything shiny and clean and the smells, wonderful
smells coming from the kitchen, terrific! And then somebody placed a
bowl of fresh cold water and a basket of crunchy dog biscuits right
in front of my nose! Wow, my search was over!
Then I heard Linda say, “Oh look, what a cutie! Where did you come
from? Are you Hungry?
My tail gave me away! I was Soooo Happy! The next thing I knew I was
up in the air getting my ears rubbed and my belly scratched.
